WARBOSS ON WARBIKE WIP

Well, instead of twiddling my thumbs, waiting for the damned wheels to show up for the Guntrukk (it has to be sent all the way from New York, an adjacent state... what gives?), I figured I ought to move on to something else. Seeing that I didn't want to leave the Warboss until the last minute (I don't want to have to rush him), I ought to start that project...

Not too much to say at this point, I want him to stick out from the other bikes and have an impressive enough presence to read as the general of the army... but not so overwhelmingly 'uge that it becomes a liability (I don't want twenty enemy models being able to get into base to base contact with him). The general idea is that he'll be pulling a wheelie, with the bike leaning to the right, and the fork turned to the left. His left hand will be on the handlebar, and his right (armed with a power claw) will be reeling back to swipe at something.

Things I plan to add: a 'UGE engine, twin linked shootas (not sure if they'll be form mounted, or back where the saddlebags would be), one or two exhaust pipes, side stand, crash bars (seem perfectly appropriate for bikes designed to be dropped while in combat), I hope to mimic all the general controls (brakes, clutch, gear shift, ect). I opted to not have rear shocks, as a "hardtail" seemed rather Orky to me.

Update 7/14/04

I made a decent amount of progress yesterday, the vast majority of the engine is complete. I am a bit on the fence about where to mount the guns. I think I should work on the rider a bit, first, and that may dictate the location of other elements.

Update 7/19/04

I made a bit more progress over the last few days. I have been focusing on adding the body of the gunner, the handlebar controls and gunz, mostly because I was the most uncertain as to how these elements would fit together. I am rather pleased with how it is coming out, I think it is looking less historical and more Orky. The front shield is sitting a bit lower than it eventually will, I will only glue it on during the painting stage (as it will be hard to get a brush in there).

Here is a closer shot of the twin linked big shootas, tons more detail to be added!

Update 7/22/04

Rivets, rivets, rivets!! Keeping the momentum up, happy to say. I've finished the details on the gun, icluding the ejection ports for the top big shootas. It is hard to make out, but there is a cable leading from the handlebar controls to the guns. So, aside from some additional trophies and decoration, I'd say the front end is pretty much done.

I am now working on the rider and back end. I added two more exhausts, and a little bit of stowage (I expect a lot more to come).

I added leg braces to the rider, as it is part of his background story. He is a cannibal, most known for devouring enemy generals and any Nobs that challenge his position. This has filled him with so much 'Waaagh' energy that he is rather unstable. He is known for violent spasms, especially in his legs, which is why he uses a warbike for his primary means of getting around.

Update 8/4/04

I was on a short vacation last week and had hoped to get some work on this during the evenings. Unfortunately, it was not to be. My Zap-A-Gap glue exploded in my bag and glued all of my tools and plastic stock together... Huzzah!! So, I am now in a mad rush to get this in time for the Boston Conflict painting contest. Can I make it in time? Who knows. I don't want to rush it, just for a contest, as I will regret it in the long run.

I have added some details to the front 'windshield', and then went on to build the powerclw in the form of a super rippy chainsaw type weapon. It seemed an appropriate weapon for a biker, as I can see him sweeping in and slicing through droves of his opponents. I figured he'd need a good long reach, too.

Following are some other angles , detail shots and a look at the base. You'll notice thet the chainsaw has a built in claw for when he needs to hold both handles (the chainsaw can be turned off at thse times)

Well, I gotta get back to working on him if I have any chance of entering in the contest. untill later...

Update 8/9/04 (last WIP update)

The clock was ticking, I gave myself to the end of Thursday night (August 5th) to finish up the modeling. I had a long list of what I wanted to finish. I find these lists help you focus, and it is rather satisying to cross things off as you complete them. It helps you see the progress and keep you motivated.

You'll notice that I added a snake out of greenstuff/kneadatite, the army's name is 'the Red Kobras', so I thought it fitting to have the General's model incorperate the namesake. Plus, it makes him all that much tougher. Also, you will find the remains of a gas thief, impaled upon the army's banner. I wonder what clan he belonged to?? Even though he is dead, he still clutches on to the jerry can and his bag of loot. I am sure the boss made a meal of him.

In case you were wondering, the base's 'cliff' surface was made out of Super Sculpey, and the banner was made out of a blend of miliput and kneadatite.

Here's one last shot of the model, primed:

On Friday I painted straight from 3:00 PM to 3:30 AM! It was kind of fun, actually, but I wouldn't want to do it on a regular basis. 3:

See the finish, +HERE+
